Like you, I have received my 2011 census form from the Office of National Statistics (ONS). The cover page prominently states, in bold, "Your personal information is protected by law. Census information is kept confidential for 100 years". Like you, perhaps, I have taken this statement at face value.

On Sunday March 27, 2011 I will be breaking the law.

If you live in England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland then I would also like you to break the law. We can do it together, and I know for a fact that an awful lot of people will be doing the same.

According to the ONS, if your completed Census is lost in the post, you have to prove that it was indeed lost in the post - this means it's not the Post Office's responsibility, it is yours from when you post it until it hits the Census factory - how odd.
